Purpose: To show that specialty within a profession attracts certain personality types as well as sharing common demographic trends. Subjects: 83 board certified pediatric physical therapists. Methods: Meyers Briggs Type Indicator and a demographic questionnaire. Frequency distributions were calculated for demographic variables for descriptive purposes. Frequency distributions of personality types as measured by the MBTI were also calculated to describe the pediatric physical therapists. Results: No significant trends among the 16 possible personality types as measured by the MBTI. Significance was found regarding "primary function" of the sample. "N" or intuitive was representative (63%) of the subjects. Common demographic trends were also found such as, gender, ethnicity, education, and job satisfaction. Conclusion: If a therapist's personality is compatible to their job they may perform better and provide a more comforting nurturing atmosphere for their patients. The knowledge of personality types may assist faculty and advisors in guiding their students career choices upon entering the labor force. Efficiency and effectiveness of services may be increased if employees working together are compatible.
