Brown tide blooms are a big concern in the Peconic Estuary because of its impacts on habitats, shellfish and fish populations. The problem that is currently being studied is that there is no hard evidence as to what causes brown tides to grow. Evaluating data of how brown tides influence the environment can better prepared us in assessing the impact of brown tides and better respond to it. Regression analysis indicated relationships with certain trace-metals, seawater compositions, and nutrients. Additional research will further our understanding of brown tide interactions.
