This Capstone Review Paper is a review of satellite imagery functions in the coastal zone areas. The background section of this paper addresses remote sensing, satellite programs, the collection and distribution of data, and data analysis/image processing. This is followed by an applications and discussions section on current studies and how satellite imagery can be used in the decision-making processes for land use classification and change detection, biological analysis, hydrology, local geology, and urbanization. The final section of this paper summarizes the future of satellite programs.
